Busan is a 6-hour-distance away from Seoul by train, Korail Mugunghwa**. It is located Eastern South of South Korea and is known for its beaches, namely Haeundae Beach and Gwangalli Beach.
** Mugunghwa 木槿花 is hibiscus in English.
Accommodation
Guest House 710 was awesome because we were given full freedom to manage ourselves, like preparing own breakfast and making friends with other backpackers. We served ourselves a sumptuous breakfast before going for sightseeing everyday in Busan. I had fruit juice, toast with egg and coco puffs for breakfast.
A large master room for 3 of us, came with the washroom, air-conditioner and TV. |
This guest house is well maintained and has some cute decorations. |
The guest house's owner is very friendly, so do the backpackers staying here. We had been invited by a Taiwanese over for a little chit chat with the other backpackers at the dining area. We were shy at first, because all this while we enjoyed being in our comfort zone (comfy room watching TV or online-ing). So here we go, 3 Malaysians, 2 Koreans and 1 Taiwanese shared stories regarding culture, education, places travelled and family upbringing. Besides, 1 of the Koreans, who works as a pastry chef, shared out the pastries he bought for his own pastries research. Pastry chef is an awesome occupation as it brings happiness to people through lovely pastries.
Socialize around with the locals and backpackers should be more proper if you declare yourself as a backpacker.
It's amazing to make new friends from all over the world, starting from now on.
Eatery
There was one night in Busan that we were having BBQ for dinner because the restaurant is walking distance from our accommodation and we couldn't go further due to the rain. We agreed that BBQ is just nice for a cold and rainy day. Different kinds of meat have different price and you won't feel full eating it. Although I still felt hungry after the meal, the BBQ was a new experience and the meat was juicy and tasted great.
Sightseeing
Haeundae Beach 海云台
I have rarely been to beaches because my home is more to highlands and even the nearest beaches will take a 2-to-3-hour-drive from home. Let's count, after Pekan and Penang Island, perhaps this was the third time I paid a visit to sandy beaches. Only after sunset gaves way to the night that we were able to see the fantastic night view by Haeundae Beach.
We acted crazily in operating the remote to control photo-shooting using my smartphone. Apparently, the bluetooth remote failed to get along with my phone and we tried out other option like "capture smile". Was there an option that uses voice as a control? I remembered we laughed frantically trying out odd control options for selfie. Hahaha!
One phrase to describe my cousin over here, 接地气,means that you do what you are doing according to new environment or culture. So, she took off her sandals and walked on sandy beaches towards the small waves, let the waves rush some cold seawater in between her toes. Feeling the great sensation, she asked us to do the same too. A big clap for her, she really possessed the adventurous mind. But, I was not 接地气 and not enough adventurous, and only took off my sandals because I found it difficult to walk on the sand, or I didn't take them off at all.
There were performances by the beach attracting people around and made the atmosphere a lot more cheerful. Also not forgetting some artists who draw sketches for a living.
Place: Haeundae Beach 海云台
Attraction: Street Performances, Night View, Sea Breeze, Soft Comfy Sand
Taejeongdae 太宗台
Taejongdae, with its magnificent cliffs facing the open sea, has dense evergreen trees and several facilities for tourists such as an observatory, an amusement park, a light house, a cruise ship terminal. We bought tickets to catch Danubi Train travelling from one pick-up point to the next along the route drafted. You may also walk to each check point but it'll be too exhausted because there are many staircases to get to the exact best location for sceneries.
Danubi Train goes from one pick-up point to the next.
Lovely sky and sea that fuse together. Wow, my red sweater is a big contrast to the blueness of the nature behind.
Light house as a navigational aid for maritime activities. Do you have a light house within you to for life navigation?
My cousin dared herself walking to the cliff without our companion to take the best shot of the view, while I held on the rope side bar for dear life.
I like long-distance train travel because we can eat during the journey other than seeing the view outside the window. On the train to Busan, I shared Bulgogi Bento, sandwiches and Onigiri 饭团 with sister. Various food choices are available at the train station.
On the train back to Seoul, we shared Lotteria Bulgogi Burger and Shrimp Burger. Shrimp burger sounded special and tasted great. FYI, Lotteria is a franchise originated from Japan in 1972.
